Barb, Charlene, Clark, Carson & families:
We were just heartbroken when we heard of Gilbert’s passing.
We remember the very first time we met Gilbert, as we were interested in purchasing a piece of land on Gilbert’s Lane to build a quiet get away.
As he took us through the property twisting through the trees showing us around and where perhaps we could put a little cottage; him saying I was just like a little squirrel going through the woods…. We laughed & laughed.
He sure had a lot of tales - Oh, how we loved to hear the stories about the past. He spent many a time here after we bought our piece of land, and then as we went through the process of finally getting our cottage built.
He always stopped by, asking about us, our families; and then our little grandsons. Always commenting on how we had changed the landscaping on our lot, and the little tree that we had planted and how huge it had grown - He always said he loved that tree. -- Oh, it’s the little things that mean so much.
He made his rounds to see everyone back on Gilbert’s Lane & we are sure he did the same in all the other little cottage communities. He certainly was well known.
You could always count on Gilbert to come haul you out of the ditch; sometimes hauling ‘him’ out of the ditch…lol
We will never again see a little Chickadee without thinking of you, Gilbert and your introduction to the little chick-a-dee-dee-dees that ate the seed out of your hand.
Well, Gilbert - you were one of a kind, and you’ll surely be missed.
Share your stories about Gilbert; as we all will back here.
Some which will make you laugh, and others no doubt will make you cry.
We send deep sympathy and much love to you all….. now and in the coming days ahead.
Judy & Brian McCarthy

We met Gilbert in 2005 when we bought a cottage he built on Church Lake. We always looked forward to him stopping by our place to share stories and woodsman lore. He was always kind, friendly and interesting. Soon after we bought he stopped by with some fresh lake trout. He wanted to see if Jim knew how to clean it. Fortunately he passed the test. Our sincere condolences to Gilbert’s family. He was a unique and fascinating person.

Dear Barbara, Clarke and Falkenham family, Betty and I wish to convey our sincere condolences. We have many fond memories of our visits with the New Germany congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. One highlight I always enjoyed was sitting with Gilbert for a bit at the KH and having a good old chat. He was such an interesting man, so much experience in life and intriguing storeys to tell. He gave me good practical advice. Gilbert and Barbara instilled spirituality into their their family as well as a good work ethic. Falkenham's are good people! He will surely be missed by all....but he will be back...and as always, Gilbert will be larger than life! (Isaiah 26;19)
We love you folks very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Your friends
Peter and Betty Sheppard

We met Gilbert in the early 90's and a decade later he built our cottage on one of his developments on Church lake. We enjoyed Gilbert's friendliness, helpfulness and humor from the beginning. He inspired us to purchase one of his lots when telling our young son stories about the loon families established at Church lake. He was unique in the way he attractively developed his lots, and we were charmed at first sight. In 2014 at the age of 80 he kindly accepted to extend our cottage. We are one of his many cottage clients he made happy. We extend our deepest condolences to Gilbert's family, and pray for him in his new life near God. May he rest in peace and remain in your loving memories.

Our deepest condolences to the Falkenham family on the passing of dear Gilbert. We met him in 2010 when we were looking for a piece of land to buy for a cottage. We got in his truck and we toured all of his roads, proud of how well maintained he was able to keep them all. We stopped at a cottage where he just popped in for a visit while we stayed in the car. He had a handful of seeds and called out in an adorable little voice, chica-dee-dee and the little birdie came and got the seed from his hand. We looked at each other and immediately fell in love with Gilbert and said no matter what, we would buy a piece of land from him! And we did on Natural Forest Lake Rd. Rest in peace dear Gilbert❤

Gilbert was one of a kind. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He seemed to own most of Lunenburg County. We had a cottage on Lake Peter that we bought from Gilbert and he built it. Loved the place as well as the kids. We had to sell when we moved to British Columbia but have wonderful memories of the place and Gilbert. We enjoyed visiting him and he visited with us. He used to bring interested buyers to our home to show what he could build them. We knew because of hand prints on the window. I was sorry to hear he was in bad health. Rest in Peace Gilbert. We all respected and loved you. Nora Picard and (JP deceased)

To Gilbert's family I send my sincere condolences,
Gilbert was always a prominent personality in Maplewood and the surrounding countryside. Everyone knew Gilbert and, as cottage country expanded in that part of Nova Scotia, many people from the city came to know him as well. I have a friend who lived on Gilbert's Lane and she always spoke so highly of him. He will be missed by so many people, but especially by you, his Family.
His energy and friendly personality will always be remembered. May the loving concern of your family and friends be a constant source of encouragement in the coming days as you learn how to live your lives without Gilbert. May God grant to each one of you whatever your heart needs most.
Sincerely,
Linda (Sarty) Powell

My contact with Gilbert was mainly third party. I was a member of the bridal party for Shawn’s wedding, his grandson. But back to the beginning of the story for a moment. His wife, Liz, had her first glance of Shawn at our annual Convention for Bible learning. She asked my opinion about him or if I knew him. I told her Shawn was a great young guy, very responsible and mature for his age and I highly recommended him. I learned later that Gilbert had a major impact in bringing up Shawn to be such a god fearing, mature young man. My condolences to Shawn and Liz, and the entire close knit family in New Germany and abroad.
