As his nephew when I was a kid Gary was bigger than life...Always had a smile and when he cracked a joke or two around my dad the whole room would erupt with laughter. When I was little Kellie and I would play in Gary's car which had a dial phone installed and I remember asking if he had a shoe phone too. Gary seemed to always have something on the go, he was busy, creative and kind. When I was little I recall Gary smoked Colts and to this day that smell reminds me of my uncle Gary his smile and laughter. Barb my heart goes out to you at this time. I like to think the Smith Boys are probably having a laugh together right now. Much Love Jason

Dear Barbara & family
So sorry to hear of Gary's passing. He was a fine man, patient and kind. I remember being on Gary's Curling Team many years ago. He never got annoyed when you missed a shot and I enjoyed every game we played together. Thinking of you and take care.

many of good times were spent with gary in the fire service we knew him as pappa. we worked many fires and breakfast together and he will be missed

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Gary many years ago at Napa. He was a kind hearted man with a good work ethic. RIP Gary.

Had the absolute pleasure to serve under Gary in the Bridgewater Fire dept. Gary was not just a great leader but a true gentleman and instructor. Gary always made one strive to do better by just his own actions. He will be missed by many who knew him.
