Florence Vivian Charlton
99, of Bridgewater, passed away June 7, 2009 in the Harbour View Haven, Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Princetta (Hughes) Corkum. She graduated from the Provincial Normal College in 1927. She was a much loved grade four teacher in the Bridgewater School System from 1927 to 1944. Miss. Corkum was fondly remembered by her students for her kindness and fairness. Her sweet smile was contagious. She was a faithful member of the Bridgewater Baptist Church, having been in the choir and in earlier years taught Sunday School. She was a life member of the Bridgewater Branch 24 Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Capt. Stanley Charlton; sisters, Lila Sarty, Marguerite Woodworth; brothers, Melvin, Havelock. A graveside service will be held 2pm Friday in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev Eric Campbell officiating. No flowers or visitation by request.
