Obituary of Veronica Theresa Chiasson

CHIASSON, Veronica Theresa – Age 84, of Lunenburg. Passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2022, at Harbour View Haven Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Alphonsus and Bridget (Coady) Dober.

Veronica was born on September 26, 1938, in Spanish Room, Newfoundland and Labrador to Alphonsus and Bridget (Coady) Dober. She is survived by her husband, Gerry; and her sons, Tim and Jason (Dan); grandchildren, Alyssa, Mark, Michael, Miranda, Amy, Sarah, Dean, Andrew, and Emily; and her two great-grandchildren, Celia and Lily. Veronica had ten siblings, and a large group of nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her sons, Randy (Donna), Brian, and Rod (Darlene).

After finishing high school, Veronica joined the Sisters of Mercy, serving for more than 10 years. During this time, she earned her teaching degree and after leaving the convent, she continued to teach primary and elementary school students over her 30-year career as an educator. In her retirement, Veronica taught adults basic language skills at the local community college. She often volunteered her time to her local church parish and communities, in both her homes in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador and Hardwicke, New Brunswick.

Veronica is remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor, her devout faith, and her unconditional love and support of her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Ridgewood Assisted Living, South Shore Regional Hospital, and particularly the paramedics who provided compassionate and professional care over the last several years.

Cremation has taken place and a private service for immediate family members will be held. At the family’s request, donations in lieu of flowers, may be made in Veronica’s memory to a charitable organization of their choice that benefits the welfare of animals.
