Obituary of Donald Gordon Cook

Donald Gordon Cook Of Bridgewater, passed away of a heart attack, on Feb. 17, 2009 at the Q E II Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in 1927, he grew up on the family farm in Cookville. In his younger years he drove a cream truck for Mackenzie's Creamery, tractor trailers for Hartlens and bus for Mackenzie Bus Line before becoming a mechanic at Andrew’s Shell in Bridgewater. In 1976 he began to manage and operate Don Cook's Irving in Pinehurst .He ended his career as a custodian for the Municipality of Lunenburg. Never one to shun work, he was hampered by a 'game leg ' that was a result of a farm tractor accident early in his life. Don enjoyed his years of retirement and could often be seen scooting around town on his blue power scooter. Don maintained his sense of humor during his four month hospital stay. He was appreciative of the care he was given and was always ready share a joke or a story. He leaves behind to grieve his wife of 54 years, Margery (Lohnes ); daughter, Peggy Smith(Paul ); brothers, Everett (Margaret Ann ) ,James(Diane ); sisters, Helen Cook, Eddie Hall (Wally ); sister-in-laws, Phyllis Joudrey(Basil), Helen Silver (Herald), Hope Lohnes (Lincoln ) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Donna; father, Gordon; mother, Idella (Wentzell) and sister, Lucille Silver (Harold). Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date. No flowers or visitation by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cystic Fibroses Society of Nova Scotia.
