Obituary of Gerald Leaman Corkum

Gerald Leaman Corkum 82, Bridgewater, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at home. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Allison and Edith (Bush) Corkum. He was the owner and operator of Corkum’s Fish Market and later Corkum’s Corner Grocery Store for 35 years, along with his wife, until they retired in 1989. Gerald will be especially missed by all the friends who he met throughout the years while running his business, his friends from the evening wood carving group, the Florida traveling companions and all of his family; he will be especially missed by his dog Sprite. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving is his son, Greg (Jane) Corkum, Hubley; grandchildren, Casey and Kelly, Halifax; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Estelle Florence Nickerson; brothers, Clayton, Carlson, Cyril and Lloyd. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Service 11 a.m., Wednesday in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater. Rev. Vivian Moores officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. No flowers by request. Donations in Gerald’s memory may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association.
