Obituary of Augustus Joseph Benoit

BENOIT, Augustus (Gus) Joseph - Age 67 of Simpsons Corner, passed away peacefully at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on March 11, 2023, surrounded by his three children.

 

He is survived by his wife, Lynda (MacKay) Benoit, Simpson's Corner; beloved children, Douglas Benoit (Caryn Addington), Upper Nine Mile River, NS, Rebecca Benoit (Nathon McFarlane), Mattawa, ON, and Jonah Benoit, Digby, NS; brothers, Douglas Benoit, Mahone Bay, NS, Harry Benoit (Kay), NL, Donald Benoit (Melissa), ON, Earl Benoit (Diana), ON, David Benoit, ON; sisters, Linda Bailey, NY, Eileen Walker (Edward), Mahone Bay, NS, Avery Jesso, NL, Elizabeth Curnew (Leo), Bridgewater, NS, Peggy Eveleigh, NL, Anne Marie Chaisson (Wayne), PEI,

Mazie Bennett (Scott) PEI, Martha Benoit, NS. Gus is also missed by many nieces, nephews,

and dear friends/neighbors. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Augustus, and Marjorie Benoit, NL; also, sister Mona Nauss. Bridgewater, NS and two brothers in infancy.

 

In December 1991, Gus was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He spent the next 32 years sharing the Bible's hope with others.

 

Gus' favorite hobbies were fishing and doing woodwork in his shop. 

 

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the ER and especially on the medical floor of the hospital.  A special thank you to Dr. Chaisson, whose care and compassion are beyond compare; to Louise from Palliative Care for her selfless dedication to not only her patients but to their families as well; along with Dr. Nestle and Dr. Livingstone for their long time commitment to Gus' care. To all staff, we will forever be grateful for the kindness and respect we were shown.

 

Finally, a big thank you to our family, friends, neighbours, and members of our congregation for visits and calls to Gus during his last days in hospital and for all the support you have provided us during this difficult time. There are not enough words to express our appreciation.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 25th, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, New Germany and will also be broadcast via Zoom Online.
