Lorna Arenburg

Obituary of Lorna Mae Arenburg

ARENBURG, Lorna Mae - Age, 87, from Evergreen Nursing Home, Kentville formerly of North River, Lunenburg County. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our grandmother; she passed peacefully at Valley Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 27, 2023, with her family by her side.

Born in North River, on June 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Blanche Hirtle.

Lorna lived a full life, raising her daughter, Susan and granddaughter, Kelly. She worked hard for everything she had. Working for Kirk's tree yard, Smilies's Restaurant, Sherbrooke Lake Church Camp, cleaning houses, and later retiring from Zellers Restaurant.

She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed playing cards and going to and watching many variety shows. She loved cooking and baking. In the winter months, you could always find her watching her daytime stories while she quilted many quilts and hooked rugs. She had a love for her cats, and cooked potatoes everyday to feed them; they kept her company for many years.

Besides her parents, Lorna is predeceased by her husband Laurie; daughter, Susan; two brothers-in-law, Maxwell and Carey; sister-in-law, Georgina.

Nan "Nammy" will be sadly missed by her granddaughter, Kelly (Rob) Bezanson, New Minas; her great granddaughter, Amy (Craig) Bezanson, Whitehorse; sister-in-law, Grace and her Evergreen roommate and partner in crime, Edna.

The family would like send an extended thank you for all the staff at Evergreen Nursing Home for all the love and care they gave her over her short stay; the Emergency Department Nursing staff and Surgical Staff at Valley Regional Hospital for their care.

In keeping with Lorna's wishes there will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A public graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Epworth United Cemetery, School Street, New Germany with Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, #4895 Highway 10, New Germany.
