Obituary of Donald Louis Myler

MYLER, Donald “Donnie” Louis – Age 72, of Walden. It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donnie Myler, on Monday, May 22, 2023 with his family by his side. Born on Bell Island, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Louis Nicholas and Ola Jean (Collicutt).

Surviving is his wife, Maxine (Zwicker) of 41 years; his daughter, Natasha and her husband Mark, son, Jacob, his grand dogs Henrik and Pavel; his sisters, Barbara (Kendall), Bernadette (Carl), Louise (Edward), Sandra, Debbie (Robert); brothers, David (Penny), Raymond (Sharon), Andrew (Donna) and many nieces and nephews.

Donnie was a very caring and hard-working man who loved his family deeply and enjoyed each moment he spent with his children. Every time they came to visit, he would say “I have a job for you”, and you would often see them working while he “supervised”. He always provided for his family as much as he could and supported his children with every decision they made. Donnie was a founding member of the Walden Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief and Deputy Chief for many years. He was a very giving man and would give his shirt off his back if someone needed one. Donnie spent lots of time at home over the last few years of his life due to health reasons. When he was not playing bingo with his ladies, collecting scrap metal or playing crib, he would tinker with his baby: his 1956 GMC truck. Donnie was a kind, loving and generous soul and he will be forever missed by his family and friends.

Thank you to the staff and nurses at Ryan Hall for their care and compassion they provided while Donnie was residing there.

A private family graveside will be held at a later date in the Lower Walden Cemetery, Walden. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to Walden and District Fire Department, Canadian Red Cross, Ryan Hall or Schools Plus at CSRS. Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, #4895 Highway 10, New Germany, where on-line condolences and messages may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
