Obituary of Josephine "Josie" Marie Levy

LEVY, Josephine Marie – Age 89, of Mahone Bay, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Mahone Nursing Home, six days before her 90th birthday. Born in Halifax, on May 31, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hilda Sheppard (O'Rourke).

Josie worked her first job at Moirs Chocolates; later working at the Wandlyn Inn, Bedford, where she worked for over 25 years. In her later years, Josie also co-owned the Sea King Diner, in Halifax, with her husband, often going there to work after she had already worked a full day.

Besides her parents, Josephine was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Earl Percy Levy; as well as her brothers, Clarey, Howard and Joseph.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Nancy); daughter, Annette; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathan (Emma), Justin (Sabrina), Cody; great-grandchildren, Alayah, Drayden, Owen, Evelyn and Madden; sister, Sylvia (Donnie); and brother, Robert (Sheila).

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mahone Nursing Home for their care and compassion over the last three years.

There will be no visitation by family’s request. A public graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in Pinegrove Cemetery, 760 Pinegrove Road, with Rev. Willis Ott officiating. A public reception will follow at the Oakhill Fire Hall, 2104 HWY 325, Whynotts Settlement, for everyone to share condolences and memories of Josie with the family. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to S.H.A.I.D. Tree Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer’s Society Nova Scotia.
