Obituary of David Michael Manthorne

MANTHORNE, David Michael - It is with great sadness that the family of David Michael Manthorne, age 83, of Bridgewater, announces his peaceful passing on Friday, July 28, 2023, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Bridgewater on January 4, 1940, the only son to the late Henry and Effie (Weagle) Manthorne.

David is survived by his caring and loving companion, Doris Eisnor; daughter, Deborah (Sheldon) Thompson, Pine Grove; son, Michael (Crystal) Manthorne, Blockhouse; two grandchildren, Richard Selig and Makena Manthorne; sisters, Anne (Russell) Major, Annapolis Valley; Janet Manthorne, Bridgewater; Sandra (Wayne) Knickle, Bridgewater; many nieces and nephews.

Step-children, Joan Belot, Pine Grove; Mary Harmon, Upper LaHave; Wayne (Sandra) Knickle, Bridgewater; Brenda Eichel, Pine Grove, Sharon Rawding, Bridgewater; many step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren.

David was predeceased by his wife, Rosaleen of 51 years; many sons-in-law and step great granddaughter, Grace.

His main occupation was on scallop draggers. In earlier years, he worked on the railroad and highways. David loved his family, friends and Cuddles his cat. He loved to go to the Valley for drives and shop at Frenchy’s.

Visitation for family and friends will be held 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, August 15 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater and where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 16. Rev. Paul Jensen officiating. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Canadian Cancer Society, South Shore Regional Hospital or SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at South Shore Regional Hospital for the excellent care provided to David.
