Obituary of Vivian Grace Whynot
WHYNOT, Vivian Grace (Publicover) - Age 101, formerly of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
Vivian was born on September 1, 1922, in Dublin Shore, NS. As one in a family of eight children, she spent her life surrounded by her loving family – whether that be her siblings, in-laws, cousins, or nieces and nephews. As the fourth eldest sibling, Vivian was always nurturing and looking out for others, traits she carried throughout her life. As a young lady, Vivian caught the eye of a gentleman named Leon, a veteran who had a charming smile and a heart of gold. They married November 28, 1953, and settled on Hillcrest Street in Bridgewater. As active members in their communities they attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and volunteered with countless organizations. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends and travelling when they could.
In May of 1961, they welcomed their son, Dwight. While they only had one biological child, their house and cottage at Lake Mush-a-Mush became the hang-out spot for Dwight’s friends, teammates, and other neighbourhood children. In 1986, Dwight married Cathy (Porricolo), and settled in Kentville, NS. In 1992, they welcomed their first daughter, Samantha and their second, Morgan, in 1994. Vivian’s granddaughters were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, hosting tea parties, swinging on the porch swing, and making them their favourite baked beans and homemade brown bread.
Vivian is survived by her son, Dwight; daughter-in-law, Cathy; granddaughters, Samantha and Morgan; and her sisters, Katherine and Ola. She was predeceased by her husband, Leon, and her siblings, Annie, Basil, Eric, Gloria and Vesta.
Vivian’s family would like to thank the staff at Harbour View Haven, in Lunenburg, for their amazing care and support throughout her stay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, December 21, 2023, in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater, where online messages of condolence may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
