Linda Avery

Obituary of Linda Noreen Avery

AVERY, Linda Noreen (Lake) – Age 72, of Wentzells Lake, passed away Friday, November 10th, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. In loving memory of Linda Noreen (Lake) Avery, who left us way too soon. We celebrate a life that left an unforgettable mark on all of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Linda was a cherished wife, sister, mom, and nana to a beautiful family. Originally from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, her family moved to Labrador City, Newfoundland in 1964, where she met the love of her life, Ross Avery.

Dedicating over three decades of loyal service to the Iron Ore Company of Canada, Linda's commitment to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her family.  While juggling a full-time career and raising a busy family, she achieved the remarkable feat of attaining her CGA, accounting designation, further exemplifying her persistence and determination. Together Linda and Ross raised three exceptional children, Chris, Carla and Steven. When their children finished their education and left Labrador, Linda and Ross decided to retire in Wentzell’s Lake, Nova Scotia, where they have spent the past 22 years living an active and fulfilling life.

Linda possessed an unparalleled competitive spirit that set her apart. During her time in Labrador, Linda enjoyed the winters at the curling rink and the summers at the golf course. Linda and Ross continued their love of golf into their retirement, where they would winter south of the border so they could golf all winter. The only thing Linda liked better than golf was spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren. Regular trips to Calgary were a testament to her commitment to be present for their activities, ensuring she didn't miss a beat, even tuning into live streams to cheer them on from afar.

Linda leaves to mourn, her loving husband of over 51 years, Ross Avery; sons, Chris (Karla Glagau-Avery), Steven; daughter, Carla (Darrin Ryan); three grandsons, Ross Avery, Lucas Avery, and James Ryan; two granddaughters, Payton Glagau, and Avery Ryan; siblings, Lorna (Jerry Gibbons), Dorothy (Frank Briand), Bill (Trudie), Brenda (Blaine Boake), Eric (Cathy) and Blair; as well as many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends, whose lives she has touched along the way. She was predeceased by her parents, Lorne and Pearl (McLean) Lake.

Beyond her roles as wife and mother, Linda was an incredible chef, and she only needed a reason to make a delicious spread fit for king. Her famous Christmas Eve chowder and apple dumplings and ice cream will be missed by many.  Her legacy of love, selflessness, competitive spirt and joy will forever resonate in our hearts.

A celebration of Linda's remarkable life will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Linda's memory may contribute to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, Kid Sport Canada, or QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation, which are organizations that held special significance for her.
