Mervin Rhodenizer

Obituary of Mervin Tupper Rhodenizer

RHODENIZER, Mervin Tupper – Age 85, Maplewood, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, with his family by his side. Born April 30, 1938, in Parkdale, he was a son of the late Lowell Milton and Mabel Rosena (Cook) Rhodenizer.

Mervin was a self-employed lumberman and farmer for most of his working career, owning and operating his own sawmill and farm. One of Mervin’s proudest accomplishments at the mill was having the opportunity to mill the new mast for the Bluenose II rebuild project. In Mervin’s earlier years, he was a proud member of the provincial championship Tug-of-War team, having pulled for both the Parkdale-Maplewood and Martock teams. He was a member of the New Cornwall Baptist Church, where he was a former Trustee. Mervin was always willing to help anyone; and for many years, Mervin has dedicated countless volunteer hours to his community, including that as record keeper and caretaker of the Parkdale-Maplewood Community Cemetery. He was a kind and gentle man who showed this in his daily demeanor along with his love for his wife and family and especially for his grandchildren who he adored.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, June Kathleen (Veinot) Rhodenizer; daughters, Vicki Rhodenizer, Maplewood; Bonita “Bonnie” (Donnie) Joudrey, Cornwall; Wendy (Dwayne) Parker, Grafton; son, Gary (Sandra) Rhodenizer, Middle Sackville; seven grandchildren, Mark DeMond, Derrick DeMond (Elizabeth), Brad DeMond (Marcy), Jonathan DeMond (Mariah), Alex Joudrey (Hailee), Evan Parker and Dawson Parker; two great-grandchildren, Kennedy DeMond and Mason LaBelle; sister, Marilyn (Rev. John) Kaulback, Bridgewater; brother, Silas Merle (Miriam) Rhodenizer, Parkdale; many nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A Service of Remembrance will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2023, in New Cornwall Baptist Church, with Rev. Tom Davidson officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Parkdale-Maplewood Cemetery, Cornwall Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
