Obituary of David Leroy Dixon
David Leroy Dixon
77, of West LaHave, formally of Halifax, died August 10, 2009 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre Halifax with his family by his side. Born in South Harbour, Victoria County, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Austin and Caissie Dixon. Having served 30 years on the Halifax Police force in various divisions including morality, detective, communications and platoon sergeant, he retired in 1987. He spent the last 22 years enjoying his summers in West LaHave and winters in Largo, Florida. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Regina (LeJeune); son Jerome, Michigan; daughter Tessa (Al Wells), Lunenburg; son Craig, Brookfield; daughter Dawn (Dave) Benedict, Pleasantville; 5 grandchildren; Spencer, Kate, Jonathon, Cory Lynn, and Taylor; brother Tommy, Halifax; and sisters Pauline Robertson, Lower Sackville; and Ethel Bryson, Guelph, Ontario. He was predeceased by his sister Susie Fitzgerald and his brother Charlie. Dave was a gentle and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who always made time to share a story or his interest in cars while whistling a favourite Cape Breton fiddle tune. He also enjoyed traveling internationally and camping across North America with Regina and his family – spending endless hours driving his favourite white Dodge. The family would like to thank the medical staff at both the QEII Health Sciences Centre and the VG Eye Clinic with special gratitude to Dr. Chris Seamone and his staff. We would also like to thank our family, friends and neighbours for their love and support during this difficult time. There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Mass will be held 1:00PM Friday August 14 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Fr. Joseph Christensen and Fr. Lloyd O’Neil officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations can be made on behave of Dave to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
