Obituary of Orlando Zelaya
ZELAYA, Gerald "Orlando" - It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our loving husband and father, Gerald Orlando Zelaya-Manguia. Orlando was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on October 15th, 1975.
He came to Canada at age 7 for life-saving heart surgery and lived there with his aunt Manuela. He then moved to New York and Florida until he came to Nova Scotia with his wife Michelle, in 2009.
He loved his wife of 20 years, Michelle, beyond measure. His girls, Serena and Isabella were the apples of his eye. He loved watching Serena grow into an amazing artist and often drew with her. He loved cooking new recipes with Isabella and sharing stories of the foods he ate growing up in Honduras. Orlando was passionate about building things and remodeling their home in Vogler’s Cove to be the forever home for his family. He also loved fishing with his girls, going to the beach to find treasures and playing games. He never missed a day in 20 years telling Michelle, Serena and Isabella how much he loved them.
Orland is survived by his wife, Michelle, daughters, Serena and Isabella, mother Suyapa Jacobson, sisters Caroline Rodriguez and Jackie Canalas, mother-in-law Valerie Lawrence, brother-in-law Michael Lawrence (Cherl), sister-in-law Sarah Gunn (Jamie), and many aunts uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father Cesar Orlando Zelaya, father-in-law Gene Lawrence, step-father John Jacobson and step-brother Mike Jacobson.
He will be forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Orlando’s name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater, where online condolences may be made at www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
