Obituary of Basil Melvin Veinot

VEINOT, Basil Melvin – Age 81, Upper Northfield, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Upper Northfield, he was a son of the late Leon Burton and Genevieve Inez (Ernst) Veinot.

Basil had a long career in trucking, mainly as a driver of an auto-carrier, delivering new automobiles to dealerships. Basil enjoyed the outdoors, being on his tractor and working in his Christmas tree lot. Basil had a quiet presence, but his wit and sense of humor could not be underestimated.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Ruth (Crowell) Veinot; daughter, Angela Veinot (Craig Silver), Blockhouse; son, Todd Veinot, Upper Northfield; his granddaughters, whom he adored, Ellie Silver and Madison Silver; sisters, Joyce Rafuse, Berwick and formerly of Upper Northfield; Inez Hebb, Upper Northfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William “Billy” Veinot; brothers-in-law, Calvin Rafuse and Boyd Hebb.

A public graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in Hillside Cemetery, Penney Road, Upper Northfield. Rev. Brooklynn Lane officiating.
