Obituary of Sharon Louise Wentzell

Wentzell, Sharon Louise – age 76 of Bridgewater, passed away June 5, 2024, at Hillside Pines, Home for Special Care, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater on October 25, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Frances (Llewellyn) Hirtle. Sharon is survived by sons, Andrew (Kelly) Wentzell, Bridgewater; Kirk (Amanda) Wentzell, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Kristen (Nick), Kaitlyn (Zack), Katie, and Brandon; brother Richard Hirtle, Lapland; brother-in-law, David Lowe, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. Sharon was predeceased by her husband, John Everett Wentzell; sister Wanda Lowe; sister-in-law, Debbie Hirtle; sister-in- law, Lillian Boyd, and Clyde Boyd. 

 

Starting her working career as a telephone operator with MT&T, Sharon left to become a full-time mother raising two boys. Sharon returned to the workforce with the South Shore Regional School Board after gaining an accounting certificate from Lunenburg Regional Vocational School. Sharon remained at the school board for 19 years until retiring to volunteer, provide love to her growing grandchildren, garden and pamper her beloved dogs full time.

 

Sharon was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, holding office on church council, a member of Inter-Church council and a member of the Ladies’ Aid organization. She was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Bridgewater Fire Department, and volunteered with the South Shore Regional Hospital Auxiliary in the gift shop. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening. A huge thank you to all the Hillside Pines staff and all of her friends for your compassion during this time.

 

Memorial service will be 3 p.m., Sunday, June 9 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Pastor Brooklynn Lane officiating. A family interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to S.H.A.I.D Tree Animal Shelter, Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, and The Heart and Stroke Foundation. Alternatively, you are encouraged to plant something in her honour.
