I was so sorry to hear that Dave died (and not surprised to hear that he preferred direct language). I feel privileged to have had the chance to coach alongside Dave for many years at Rive-Sud. His love of badminton was so evident...not only as a sport, but as a way of life. He emphasized the decorum, sportsmanship, and etiquette of the game. My children learned so much from him as players, and I learned so much as a fellow coach. He will be missed by so many. Sincere condolences, Danielle.

I met Dave during the 70s, but worked for him in the early 80s when he was a Royal Trust. He was a very kind thoughtful employer, and appreciated hard work. As I moved on to different employment, I would still delight in running into him around town, always stopping for a nice chat. Sorry for your loss. May the hole left in your world be filled slowing and surely with wonderful memories.

I can't load a song but please listen to Celine Dion's song "Because you loved me" and know that those words are so true. Thank you Dave for loving me just the way I am and helping me accept myself as I am.

I was very sad to hear of Dave's passing. I first met Dave in the early 70's in Halifax. When we both moved to Bridgewater in 1974 we got a badminton program going in the old BHS gym. During the early years, our club hosted several badminton tournaments. Dave and I teamed up in men's doubles for several years. He was a great friend and will be missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace my friend.

Danielle and family,
I am so very sorry to hear of David's passing. I first met David 37 years ago when I worked as a summer student at the McLeod Young Weir head office in Halifax. David would come into the Halifax office every couple of weeks and we would chat about the goings on down on the South Shore and BMW's of course! It was wonderful to get the chance to re-connect with David when I moved to Bridgewater 7 years later, when he was working across the street from our office and we both joined the Rotary Club of Bridgewater and District as charter members. David was held in high regard and was also, as you describe so aptly, "the kindest man". I salute David to a life well lived. My thoughts are with you and I offer my deepest condolences.

Our sincere condolences to you, Danielle, and the entire family. I love what you wrote about Dave's 'radio voice'. It's so true, and his calm and friendly character made him indeed a very kind and caring person with a great sense of humor. The 'badminton kids' will miss him dearly, and so will we. So very sorry to hear about David’s passing.
I have a great memory of him when racing with Joel Archibald during Chester Race Week. The first race was in very thick fog, so thick that Dave went below and was able to plot our course from buoy to buoy under a lot of pressure. We would come out of the fog for a second and there were the markers, amazing job and we won our division that week.
Sincerely
Greg Crouse

I was fortunate enough to have known Dave for the entirety of my badminton career. Particularly during my junior badminton years, I always found myself lost in conversation with him about anything and everything - whether it be personal life, badminton related, school or anything in between. He was a wonderful listener, always offering sage advice and a positive word whenever and wherever possible. Although as I began to age out of junior badminton our conversations became fewer and farther between, each time I ran into him at a tournament or event it felt like we picked up right where we left off. Always a very warm, welcoming, and positive presence but most importantly, he was always a friend - and for that I will forever be thankful. I will always hold the conversations, smiles, laughter, and friendship that we shared near and dear. From age 8 until now (22) I held - and will continue to hold - Dave in the highest regard, not just as a figure in the badminton world but as a human being. I will never be able to put into words the impact Dave had on my badminton career and my personal life and I am eternally grateful and consider myself extremely fortunate to have known such a kind, warm, and wonderful man.
My deepest condolences to his family

Among the friends Sylvan and I made via our connection to Milford House, Dave (and Danielle) is (are) among our most cherished. Dave's hugs were as big as his heart and sense of humor. He was the first to teach me how to build a fire and will forever bring a smile to my face as I recall our joint laughing annoyance with the redundant use of the terms ATM "Machines" and PIN "Number." I have a fond memory of a ride in his little convertible and a sit-upon his tractor. They were simple pleasures shared with this down-to-earth guy. The dining room at Milford House will "ring" with his presence as we imagine the "ringing" on his wine glass as if to announce a toast to be made but then simply saying, "Thank you," and calmly resuming his meal as the overly noisy guests quieted down. Dave will be missed by so many including us.

Sandy and I were some of the fortunate Milford House guests who got to know and become friends with Dave (and Danielle too!) While we certainly came to know Dave's caring( watching him comfort a staff member having a difficult time), his wit, and his intellectual curiosity, we did not know until reading his obituary about his singing - would that we had known). When someone dies, an entire way of looking at the world is extinguished. However memories help...and we have so many wonderful memories of time spent (hours and hours in the Milford House parlor, at Blodgett and Lazyman cabins) with Dave (and Danielle too!). Whenever the dining room at Milford House gets too noisy, or a child is permitted to run rampant while innocent guests are trying to enjoy their meals we will think of Dave and have a good laugh in his memory. Our hearts go out to Danielle and all who loved him.
Sylvan Seidenman

So very sad to read that Dave recently passed. I met Dave playing badminton in Liverpool and we became friends. He was an awesome listener and gave sage advice. He also had a sixth sense…intuition…and always checked in with people at tournaments or club night when he sensed things might be not quite right. When I was coaching badminton I would meet up with him coaching his kids…always so proud of them not necessarily for badminton prowess but for their personal growth and perseverance over adversity which I am sure he was part of supporting. I hope Rick and Dave meet up to hit a few shuttles in badminton land in the beyond!
My deepest condolences to the family.
