Obituary of Lana Gail Veinotte

VEINOTTE (Poole), Lana Gail - passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 18, 2024 at her home in West Northfield. Born in New Germany on November 26, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Elwood and Edith Flora (Tipert) Poole.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene; survived by her son, Andy (Cheryl), West Northfield and twin daughters, Anne, Halifax and Angela (Nathan) Hirtle, Hubley; grandchildren, Dustin, Jacob and Emily; brother, Maurice “Morris” (Norma).

She was also predeceased by her brothers, Layton “Billy”, Gerald; sister, Lucille Hamm, sister-in-law, Winnifred (Lent) Poole, Sadie (Wile) Poole, brother-in-law, Beverley Hamm.

She graduated from New Germany Rural High School and Acadia University (BSc, Mathematics, ’68 and BEd ’69). From 1970 to 1992, she was an elementary school teacher at a number of schools finishing her career at West Northfield Elementary. She was diagnosed twice with stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma surviving for 31 years. The effects of chemotherapy and radiation caused deterioration in her body which led to a lack of cartilage in her ankles causing extreme pain. Lana’s extensive genealogy work was well respected by many and she could write a book on most of the genealogy lines with an overwhelming amount of detail. Her impressive detective work was always backed up by pictures, documents and obituaries. She was instrumental in the production of “Reflections 2000: A History of West Northfield & Area” as well as the recipe book, “Family Favourites” on behalf of the Parish of New Germany. Both books sold out due to popularity. She was an active community member and organist at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. When she wasn’t doing genealogy, you could find her mowing the lawn, enjoying the outdoors and appreciating her property which was her sanctuary for wildlife. The birds, foxes and deer were her pets. Lana was a master breadmaker. Lana loved spending time with Emily, photography, watching sports, going to the beach and decorating her bicycle. The coast-to-coast road trip that she took with Eugene in 2009 was unforgettable.

Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2024, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. Service of Remembrance will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 30 in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, West Northfield, Rev. Catherine Robar officiating with interment for immediate family only in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. A reception will follow at the West Northfield Community Hall.
