Obituary of Robert Beresford Reynolds

Robert Beresford Reynolds passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, NS, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Montreal on April 15, 1939, Bob was the second child of Annie Marjorie Nixon and Flying Officer Harold Charles Beresford Reynolds. Growing up in the Town of Mount Royal, close to the Laurentians, Bob discovered a love for skiing which became a lifelong passion of his, taking him to many wonderful ski destinations throughout his life. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and after many years spent at Camp Nominingue, Que., his love of the outdoors continued as he enjoyed sailing, running, golfing, platform tennis, curling and riding his bike.

Bob was a loyal, dedicated and hard-working individual, demonstrated by a 38-year career with Anchor Cap & Closure Corp., subsequently Crown Cork & Seal Company Inc., which eventually took the family from Hudson, Quebec to Toronto. Bob’s adventurous spirit led him in many directions, including learning to fly small planes in his youth, weekly chaperoning of teenagers on the bus to Raven’s Ski Club and various long-haul sailing adventures later in life.

Bob was a gentleman, through and through. He was committed to helping out where he could, volunteering as an Akela to the Cub Scouts, serving in various capacities on church committees and local environmental committees, and helping out friends in need.

Upon retirement, Bob’s path took him to Nova Scotia where he became a true maritimer. Bob enjoyed many trips with Alison and friends, travelling much of the world, and when at home he enjoyed celebrating with good food and good friends. His boundless energy was on display in the countless hours he spent outside in his beloved garden.

Bob is survived by the love of his life and his wife of 57 years, Alison (nee Baker), Bridgewater, NS; daughters, Cathy Reynolds, Calgary, AB, and Mary (Gord) Phillpott, Belfountain, ON; sister Sybil Ann (Sally) Mackenzie, Connecticut; grandchildren, Hudson, Emily, Hugh and Bob, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Bridgewater, NS on August 29th at 1pm, with Rev. Simon Davies and Rev. Fran Boutilier officiating the service.
