Obituary of Carolyn Matilda Kaizer

KAIZER, Carolyn “Gamma” Matilda – Passed away on October 21, 2024, in Bridgewater, at the age of 67. Born on October 31, 1956, to the late Donald and Lois (Carver) Veinotte, of Sweetland.

Besides her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Veinotte. She is survived by her 4 children, Nina (Brad) Berkman, Charity (Mark) Kaizer, Kristian (Lisa) Kaizer, and Kyle (Samantha) Kaizer; 8 grandchildren, Maddy, Kayden, Olivia, Braden, Wesley, Daniel, Kiana and Kaige; her great-grandchild Jaxon; and many family and friends, along with her closest group of friends, all known as Gamma’s Ghouls.

Carolyn grew up in Walden. In her younger days, her best memories were spending time with Uncle John and Aunt Myrtle, often spending time on or around the saltwater, enjoying corn and clam boils, and being with family. She also really enjoyed her times spent with Aunt “Beety”, Uncle Cliff and Aunt Laura. She has fond memories of hearing the train as it passed by. She spoke of going to church with her grandmother, attending Sunday school, briefly being of part of the 4-H group, sewing an apron that was sent to the Exhibition for judging and her involvement with the Walden Volunteer Fire Department. She was a proud founding member of the Walden Volunteer Fire Department, serving in various roles before she moved. Being the role model she was, Carolyn got her GED as an adult and was super proud to have done it with her best friend. Often doing things together, growing up her 4 children knew that every Wednesday night was “Fran” night – she was going to hang with her best friend, Frances Langille, it was a non-negotiable. It was never questioned, they just knew. Whether you were related by blood or not, if you needed her, she was there. Friends and Family are things she loved and valued the most through life.

Once her children were independent, she continued to help others in the workplace. She was employed at a few places. Oak Island Inn, Comfort Inn, Lunenburg Arms, Fairview and then ended up at Peter’s Place, a brain rehabilitation care home, this she felt was her dream job and unfortunately ended too soon after a car accident.

Carolyn started out as “mom” then quickly adopted the name “Gamma” when she became a grandmother. The name stuck and would often then be called “Gamma” by everyone. As proud as she was of her grandchildren, they were proud of her, always asking her to come with to anything they were involved in, whether it was a sports game, dance performance, playing hours of board games, birthdays, holidays, or anything they could take her to, they wanted her there, her East Coast and West Coast Stars. She will continue with you in, everything you do - just watch a little closer.

Anything a little spooky or different was Caroyln’s jam. If you knew her, you knew that The Nightmare Before Christmas, Garfield, anything Halloween – the spookier the better, was what she liked. She liked to dance even if in her own kitchen by herself. She enjoyed reading, playing cards throughout the years, and last going off, she really loved “rip roaring” games of SkipBo. Keeping you on your toes never knowing where exactly conversations were going, even sometimes you never knew what kind of an answer you’d get when you asked what she wanted to do for her birthday. One of the most adventurous memories was when her family watched her safely from the ground, as she decided to go skydiving to celebrate her 50th birthday. “Different, it’s just who I am” she would say.

Leaving this world sooner than anyone could prepare for we ask that in her honor that you enjoy every upcoming Halloween, celebrate just a little bit more, be a little spookier in her memory. Halloween was her birthday. Her family would like to share with you these thoughts shared from her: “Be respectful, Be a good person, Help out other people, and Don’t be a “fru-fru” thinking you are any better than anyone else”.

Cremation has already taken place by Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no funeral service by request. If there is a gathering, it will be held at the Walden Volunteer Fire Department, at a later date. If you would like to donate in Carolyn’s honour, please make memorial donations to the Walden Volunteer Fire Department - waldenfiredepartment@gmail.com. Please reach out to them with any questions.

Carolyn’s family would like to extend their biggest THANK YOU to the several medical teams that helped them navigate the last 3 years. Also, a “Special Thanks” to Dr. Lamond and his extended oncology team, Dr. Walsh and his surgical team, Bridgewater Cancer Care Center, South Shore Palliative Care team, and the V.O.N.
