Obituary of Carman Eldred Wentzell

Wentzell, Carman Eldred – Age 83 of Branch Lahave, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater with his daughters by his side. Born in Branch Lahave on June 12, 1941 at his grandmother’s farmhouse, was delivered by his grandmother Dessa, who was a midwife. He was a son of the late Earl and Viola (Meisner) Wentzell.

Carman will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda (Conrad); daughters, Sharlen (Gerald) Mailman and Tanya (Murray) Mailman; grandchildren, Josh and Hannah; sisters, Rona (Lloyd) Bowers, Linda (Vincent) Wile; sisters-in-law, Betty Wentzell and Marilyn Wentzell; nieces, Sandi Bowers, Kelly Beaudreau, Jennifer Naugler, April Walsh; nephew, Tim Wile; furry grandbabies, Rosie, Jack, Whiskey, Tommy and Jake. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Viola (Meisner) and Earl Wentzell; brothers, Ivan and Donnie Wentzell.

Carman was a hard worker from an early age and his various jobs included treeing, tobacco picking, Lohnes and Zwicker’s Log Truck/Tractor Shop, and South Shore Ready Mix. During that time, he worked for friends in his own garage welding and doing tractor jobs which he enjoyed doing.

He made many friends over the years and made many more while helping to care for his wife at home for several years. He was so thankful for all the homecare workers, friends and family members who helped along the way.

He took on housework, cooking, laundry, grocery shopping without hesitation, along with all the outside chores. “A True Hero”.

Sadly, he became ill himself in February, facing each battle with determination. During this time his strong will shined through. Still able to complete chores inside and outside the home. He did what he loved to do, “work”. Firewood, painting, attending the Big Ex, talking with friends and family were his favorite things to do.

He truly enjoyed and appreciated every single phone call and visit during his illness. These gestures of kindness will be remembered forever.

This great man was a friendly, outgoing, kind soul that will never be forgotten. So unfair to lose one of the best, who was loved beyond measure by his family and friends.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, December 1 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. No interment at this time. Donations may be made to Hillside Cemetery in Branch Lahave, SHAID animal shelter, or a charity of choice.
