Obituary of Alfred Harold Zwicker
ZWICKER, Alfred Harold – A limb has fallen from our family tree. With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Alfred Harold Zwicker at the “ripe old age of 87” on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Alfred died suddenly at the home he proudly built in Timberlea, NS.
Even up until his passing, Alfred embodied the definition of hard work, dedication and “doing it right”. Many stories were shared about his first job logging and stripping trees by hand in the backwoods logging camps of Lunenburg County. He went on to become an excellent drywall taper and finisher, including many hours spent on drywall stilts to make sure walls and ceilings were perfectly smooth. An excellent carpenter, Alfred continued to work building and renovating homes for many years until his retirement. He loved old cars especially his cherished 1973 Dodge Dart which he purchased new, working in the woods, hunting, and country music jams at many community halls.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Caroline Ann (Frank) Zwicker and three children: daughter, Christine (Tim Mattatall), Porters Lake; sons, Rickey (Mary McCulley), Kentville; Marshall (Karen), Stillwater Lake. Grampy loved his seven grandchildren, Charlie Mattatall (Laura MacNeil), Dartmouth; Carl Mattatall (Camila Orozco), Halifax; Adam Mattatall, Porters Lake; Grace Mattatall (Walter VanBuskirk), Halifax; Matthew Zwicker, Dartmouth; Brandon Zwicker and Cameron Zwicker, both of Tantallon.
Alfred was proud of his deep family roots in Scarsdale, Lunenburg County, and spent most weekends visiting family, staying at the camp or “The Ranch” in later years. Born in the family home in Scarsdale, NS, he was the son of the late Charles Eldridge and Bernice Leina (Rafuse) Zwicker; he was predeceased by his sister Shirley Dorey formerly of Scarsdale; sister-in-law, Beverly Zwicker, formerly of Hantsport. The surviving five Zwicker brothers are Gerald (Marjorie), Auburndale; Harley (Betty), Pinehurst; Errol (Shirley), Hantsport; Howard (Joan), Maplewood; Leon (Eleanor), East Dalhousie; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
