Obituary of Phyllis Marguerite Hamm

Phyllis Marguerite Hamm Of Danesville. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Hamm on April 11, 2009 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. She was born and lived the majority of her life in Danesville and was the only child of Lawrence (Laurie) Connolly and Flora Weagle. At the age of three she lost her father in an industrial accident and was raised by her mother and step father Amos Hatt and also by her grandmother Janet (Grammie). In her younger years she worked as waitress in restaurants in Liverpool. She left her job after being called upon to take care of her ailing grandmother. Besides being a great mother to her children she was also busy knitting, crocheting and braiding rugs some of which went as far away as England. She got so much enjoyment from going to bingo and being with her bingo friends and she also looked forward to going on the monthly bus trip to the casino. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh and have fun. One her greatest accomplishments, was when she was able to get her drivers license in 1994. She faced her illness with courage and enjoyed each day as best she could. She never complained about her illness, but fought it all the way. Surviving are her children, Dave (Susan) Middlewood; Dale (Lorna) Wileville; Hughie (Sandra) Oakhill; Vivian (John Patterson) Bridgewater; Paulette (Gerald Hudson) Hebbville; Valerie (Tony Feener) Lunenburg; Keith ( Dorine) New Cumberland; Karl (Deborah) Oakhill; Evelyn (Aubrey Frank) Danesville; Neil at home; Victor (Mandy) Upper Branch; step daughter, Roxie Bremner Chester; 26 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 step sisters and 2 step brothers. Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband James (Victor), Step sisters Evelyn and Elsie and a step brother. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday in the Bridgewater United Church, Rev Ivan Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
