Robie O. Hennigar
98, Bridgewater, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in the Veteran’s Wing, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born December 14, 1910, he was the son of the late Uriah and Maude (White) Hennigar. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Margaret (Hamilton); sister in law, Madelon, step-daughter, Kathleen Gorman and step son, Thomas Gorman, many nephews, nieces and their families. Robie’s nephew, Marven (Cheryl), great-niece, Shannon, great-nephew, Joel (Holly) and great-great nephew, Daegan Robie, will forever treasure the memories of this wonderfully kind uncle. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by brothers, William (Ruth), Wilfred (Bessie), Nelson, Wainwright (Phyliss), Foster (Madelon), Lawrence (Theresa); sisters, Greta (Ralph Anthony), Charlotte (Guy Laffin), Nettie (Louis Hennigar), Blanche (Ora Wallace). In his early years, Robie worked on the family farm and in the woods. During the Second World War, Robie served overseas with the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. He served in North Africa, Sicily, Holland, was injured and sent home from England, later to be hospitalized in Debert. Upon returning home, he was the post master in Noel, retiring in 1975. Robie thoroughly enjoyed hobby farming, gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing and dancing. A service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 24, at the Noel Royal Canadian Legion with a reception to follow. Donations may be made to the Poppy Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion, Noel.
