Arthur Burton Johnson
91, Bridgewater, passed away March 2, 2009, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Woodstock, NB, he was a son of the late Burton and Susan (Mitton) Johnson. A WWII veteran, Arthur served with the BC Dragoons, 9th armoured regiment in North Africa, Italy and Holland and left the military at the end of the war at the rank of Captain. Art was employed with Canadian General Insurance for 30 years, first in Saint John, N.B. and then as District Manager in Halifax. After retirement Art and Ruth moved to their dream home on the LaHave River where Art enjoyed his lifelong passion for sailing. Some of his happiest times were spent at the LaHave River Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife, E. Ruth Johnson; sons, Tom, Halifax; Richard, Chester; Keith (Rita), Halifax; Andrew, BC; David (Denise), Mt. Uniacke; daughter, Nancy (Robert) Dekelver, Ottawa; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Keefe, Halifax; Peggy Taylor, Toronto. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward. A memorial service will be held at a later date. No visitation or flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
