Obituary of Doreen Elizabeth Kendall

Doreen Elizabeth Kendall (nee Dorey) 68, of Western Shore passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the South Shore Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Martins River, she was a daughter of the late Richard Dorey and the late Kathleen (Wambolt) Hiltz. Loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was known for her beautiful smile, superior culinary skills and love of hummingbirds and nature. Throughout the years she was employed as a cook at various restaurants such as Captain Angus Seafood Restaurant in Lunenburg and the Rope Loft in Chester. She was a very special lady who will be missed by many. She is survived by her second husband, Patrick Kendall; sons, Tony (Patricia Westhaver), Blockhouse; Chris, Camalachie, Ont.; daughters, Valerie (Richard Nejrup), Wilmot; Julie (Cory Rasmussen), Ladysmith, BC; grandchildren, Christopher, Chad, Corey, Betina and Kaleb; brothers, Donald (Joan), Leo (Melinda) and Barry (Maureen) Dorey, all of Martins River; sisters, Dorothy Dolimount, Clearland; Lucille Wentzell (Pat Gabriel), Caledonia; Linda (Jim) Barss, Lunenburg; sister in law Jeanette Dorey of Martins River and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by our father Allen Burn DeLorey, brothers Louis, Keith and Charlie Dorey; sister, Norma Lantz. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater where there will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday in St. Martin’s Anglican Church, Martins River, Rev Bonnie Baird officiating. Public interment in the Martins River Cemetery, Martins River. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society – The Lodge That Gives or IWK Health Centre Foundation.
