Obituary of Frederick W. Prince
Dr. Frederick Wickwire Prince, B.Sc., B.Ed., MD, CM
Died at home in Bridgewater on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at age 81. Born in Kentville, the son of Wilfred Stevens Prince and Sarah (Wickwire) Prince, he served tirelessly as a family physician in Bridgewater for over 40 years. He was elected Student Union President while attending Acadia University, and later at Dalhousie was chosen Life President of his medical class. He received a Senior Membership Award from the N.S. Medical Society in recognition of his distinguished standing in Nova Scotia’s medical community. He served as Chairman of the Bridgewater School Board for 10 years. He has been recognized by both the N.S. Music Teachers Federation and the N.S. Band Association for his lifelong contribution to community music programs. Over the years, he was a member of many musical groups including the Gentlemen of Swing, the Don Warner Orchestra, the Chester Brass, the South Shore Concert Orchestra, the Bridgewater Fireman’s Band, and the Big Sound Band. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Beatrice (Heine); his children: Gordon (Janice Preston), Steven (fiancee Mary Anne Sersen), Mary (Gordon MacDonald), David (Patricia Craig), and Jim (Darla Smith); grandchildren Holly (fiance Patrick Higgins), Graeme, and Robyn Prince; Jeffrey and Blair MacDonald; Mark, Lisa, and Jill Prince; Brett and Kenneth Prince; brother J. Benjamin Prince (Constance Ganong), and sister-in-law, Judith (Morrow) Prince. He was predeceased by his brother John; sister-in-law Marjorie Holdsworth Prince; and daughter-in-law Kim Henneberry Prince. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. A family burial service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown, Annapolis County.
