Obituary of Herbert Mauger

Herbert Charles Mauger 70, of Liverpool and Dayspring, passed away in Queen’s Manor, Liverpool, August 24, 2007. Born in Petites, N.L., he was a son of the late Ross and Harriet (Francis) Mauger. In his early years, he went fishing with his father and later on in life he joined the Canadian Coast Guard in Dartmouth, and was a Quartermaster on the CCGS Labrador. In 1967, he moved his family to Lunenburg. He went fishing on various scallop vessels fishing out of Lunenburg and Riverport as well as longlining out of Lockport until, due to illness, he stopped fishing in 1990. He loved having family and friends around him and enjoyed hunting and fishing, before his illness. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife, Deloris (Walters); daughters, Tina (Wayne) Risser, Dayspring, whom he resided with prior to going to Queens Manor; Gloria (Gerald) Leamon, Isle Aux Mort, N.L.; sons, Brian (Eva) Mauger, Burnt Islands, N.L.; Scott (Lisa) Mauger, Liverpool; stepsons, John (Erna) Maddox, Bridgewater; David (Shelley) Maddox, Pinegrove; James Maddox, Nappinee, Ont.; nine grandchildren; six step-grand children; one great grandchild; one step great-grandchild; sister, Elsie (Don) Organ, Little Bay, N.L.; brothers, Dan Mauger, Newfoundland; Wilfred (Rose) Mauger, Halifax; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, James Mauger and Cecil Mauger. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are under the direction of C.F. Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A gathering of family and friends will take place in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, August 28, from 7-9 p.m., from where the memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. Burial of ashes will follow in Dayspring Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorials in Herbert’s memory may be made to the Queen’s Manor, Liverpool, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch.
