Obituary of Wesley Truman Weldon

Wesley Trueman Weldon 72. Branch LaHave. Wes has gone to sing in a higher choir. He passed away in South Shore Regional Hospital on November 18, 2009. Born in Woodville NS, he was a son of the late Harris and Elspeth (Noble) Weldon. He relocated to Bedford and attended Halifax Regional Vocational School graduating with a certificate in bookkeeping. He worked in the Halifax/Dartmouth area until retiring to Bridgewater in 1992 (returning to his wife’s family home). During semi-retirement, he worked part time for Kirk’s Forest Products and South Shore Regional Library as a bookmobile driver. Wes was a very active volunteer – he was a Sunday School Superintendent at “Our Savior’s Lutheran Church” in Dartmouth and church choir member; he coached bantam league hockey in the Dartmouth/Woodlawn area; during his time in Branch LaHave, he was active in Saint James Lutheran Church and the Branch LaHave Community Hall for which he received certificates of recognition for volunteer services from the Municipality of Lunenburg 2000 and 2001 as well as provincial certificate for exceptional volunteer services 2001. He was active in the Conservative Party of Canada and the Lunenburg West Progressive Conservative Party. He received the Queens Jubilee Medal 2002. He was known for his singing voice and his all-round love of music. His band, “Movin” was voted “Country 101 CHFX band of the year” in 1988. He volunteered his talents at variety shows in the South Shore and surrounding area and was active in the Hank Snow Society and the NSCMHF. He sang with the Bethany Chorale in Halifax and the New Germany Men’s Choir. His proud accomplishment was his CD “Reminiscing”. He is survived by his partner in life Pauline (Veinot) Weldon; son Richard (Carol), Fall River NS; daughter Monique Gaudet, Branch LaHave; grandchildren, Robyn Murree, Edmonton (presently serving in Afghanistan); Jenae and Jake Gaudet, Branch LaHave; Sister Ruth Ann (Jack) Krieger, Calahoo AB; Sisters in law, Elizabeth Keizer, Halifax; Joan Weldon, Port McNeil BC. Nieces and nephews, Alberta and British Columbia. He was predeceased by brother Harris Weldon. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service at St. James Lutheran Church, followed by reception Branch LaHave Community Hall will be held on November 29, 2009 at 2:00pm. Rev. William Gustafson officiating. No visitation or flowers by request. Donations to St. James Lutheran Church, Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
