Obituary of Earl Norman Bushen

Earl Norman Bushen Oct. 02 1926 ~ Oct. 08 2010 On October 8, 2010 Earl Norman Bushen of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at Ryan Hall the place he called home for the past 5 months. Earl was born and raised in West Dublin, N.S. and was the son of the late Urban and Annie (Bell) Bushen. Earl is survived by his wife Norma (Vannah). They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He is also survived by: his daughters Sherrie and Karen (Wade) Davis, and daughter-in-law Wendy. Grandchildren: Adam, Ashley, Anna and Steven and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by niece Linda Herman and nephew Gary Bushen. Earl was predeceased by his son Michael and brother Loran. He had a great passion for music. He loved playing his fiddle and singing at country hall dances, singing songs while camping with family and friends, singing in the church choirs, playing the trumpet in the Bridgewater Fireman’s Band, and lastly rosining up the bow to play his favorite jigs and reels with the Lunenburg County Fiddle Club. In 1948, Earl began his working career at Sabin’s Auto Shop as a self taught Autobody Mechanic. He then began working at Rafuse Motors as a mechanic and later on as a car salesman. In keeping with the same career path, he then began selling autoparts. When Michelin came to Bridgewater, Earl decided to change his career and became the company chauffer and then later transferred to the Maintenance Department where he worked until he retired in 1991. He was an active fireman with the Bridgewater Fire Department for 25 years and remained an honorary fireman until this day. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday October 13th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Memorial service will be Thursday October 14th at 2:00 pm at the Bridgewater Baptist Church, Rev. Eric Campbell and Rev. Norman Hovland officiating with a reception to follow. Private family burial will take place after the reception. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of Canada, or a charity of your choice.
