Obituary of Ralph Clayton Clattenburg

Ralph Clayton Clattenburg 86, Pleasantville, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on June 16, 1924 in West LaHave, he was the son of the late Freeman and Violet (Lohnes) Clattenburg. Ralph was employed at Boehner Woodworkers Ltd., West LaHave, Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering Ltd., Lunenburg and the last thirty plus years prior to his retirement he was a dedicated and reliable employee of Irving Oil Ltd., Bridgewater. He was a person who enjoyed the very simple pleasures of life; especially fishing, hunting and smelt fishing during winter on the LaHave River and later in life, he enjoyed working with is wife in the vegetable garden and keeping their home and property in an impeccable condition. He was for years a member of the Pleasantville Fire Department and a deacon of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Conquerall Bank. He is survived by his son, Dale (Susan), Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Mark, Lower Sackville; Steven (Andrea), Peterborough, Ont.; Julie (Jamie) Mason, Mahone Bay. Ralph enjoyed immensely the many visits and pictures of his only great grandchild, Aaden Cordell Mason, Mahone Bay; also surviving are a brother, Estel “Ted”, of Spryfield. He was predeceased some fourteen months ago by his loving wife and companion, Celia Kathleen Clattenburg; sister, Audrey; brothers, Allister, Arnold, Garth, Maxwell and Wesley. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service 11 a.m., Saturday in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Conquerall Bank, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Private family burial will follow at the West LaHave Cemetery. Family flowers only by request. Donations may be made to the Pleasantville Fire Department, West LaHave Cemetery or the charity of choice. A special thank you from the family to his caregivers in recent months.
