Obituary of Elmer Conrad

L. Elmer M. Conrad 79, of Lower Branch, passed away March 2, 2002 in the Veteran’s Unit of the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born, May 8, 1922, in Branch LaHave, he was a son of the late Lester and Bernice (Veinot) Conrad. He was a Veteran of the Second World War serving from 1943 – 1946 with the North Shore Regiment. He served in Canada, Britain, and Northeast Europe. He was Past President, Past Zone Commander and Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater. He was a Fisheries officer for 17 years and then worked with Michelin until retirement. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater; a member of the MicMac Rod and Gun Club; Past Member of the Christmas Tree Association; a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marion (Keddy); daughters, Sandra Emenau, Bridgewater; Debbie (Stephen) Loughnan, Prospect; granddaughters, Heather and Kelly Emenau; sister, Reta (Norman) Bolivar, Baker Settlement; brother, Harold (Pauline), Upper Branch; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Delmer. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm, with a public legion tribute service being held at 7pm, all in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday in St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev James Slack Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Branch LaHave. Family flowers only.
