Obituary of Lawrence MacKay
Lawrence Archibald MacKay
83, of Hebbville, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully August 8, 2007 in the Q E II Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Riversdale, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Mary Ella (Maxwell) MacKay. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the RCAF in Newfoundland and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater. He was employed as service manager by LaHave Equipment for several decades and was a very active member of the Bridgewater United Church, serving as an elder, funeral coordinator, as well as, coordinator of Special Ushering. Lawrence was also a volunteer with the Bridgewater Interchurch Food Bank. He had a great sense of humor and was liked by all who met him. He is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Wright; sons, Curtis and Scott (Pauline) all of Fancy Lake; daughter, Alexa MacKay, Lunenburg. He was proud grandfather to grandchildren, Kristen MacKay, Jennie MacKay, Kiel MacKay, Claire Smith, Matthew MacKay and Mercedes MacKay; sister, Helen MacKay, Bible Hill. He was predeceased by sisters, Jean Plamondon, Susan Kirkpatrick, Margaret Steinman, Isabel Cameron, Gertrude Carter, Dorothy Delaney; brother, Harold and twins in infancy. Visitation will be held Friday from 7 to 9pm with a public legion tribute service being held at 7pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A memorial service will be held 2pm Saturday in the Bridgewater United Church, Rev Ivan Norton officiating. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bridgewater United Church.
