Obituary of J. Sylvia Ramey

J. Sylvia Ramey 87, Barss Corner, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2010 with her family by her side in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where she had been residing. Born in Farmington, she was a daughter of the late Emery and Roxie (Mossman) DeLong. She was an active member of Barss Corner United Baptist Church, honorary member of the Baptist Ladies Auxiliary, member of the former Barss Corner Women’s Institute and life member of Barss Corner Women’s Missionary Society; she was an avid supporter of the Barss Corner Community Hall. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her daughters, Marilyn Jolley, Wolfville; Diane (George) Joudrey, Barss Corner; Donna (Ron) Were, Lower Sackville; sons, Richard (Cheryl) Ramey, Bedford; David Ramey (Nancy Reeves), Barss Corner; Gary (Marlene) Ramey, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Michael Jolley, Peter Jolley, Peggy Jolley, Michele Beck, George Joudrey, Corinne Joudrey, Blair Were, Tara Magarvey, Matthew Ramey, Jason Ramey, Garrett Ramey; 10 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Owen Lester Ramey; brothers, Winfield DeLong, Reginald DeLong; son in law, Sidney Jolley. Visitation 6:30 – 9 p.m. Monday, December 20 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, #4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday in Barss Corner United Baptist Church, Barss Corner with Rev. Lloyd Gillieo officiating. Private family burial will follow in Barss Corner Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Barss Corner United Baptist Church, Barss Corner Community Hall, Rosedale Home for Special Care Van Fund or charity of choice.
