Obituary of Owen Ramey
Owen Maxwell Benjamin Ramey
Of Crousetown, May 3, 1919 – September 22, 2010. We, the family of Owen Ramey are sad to announce his passing on Wednesday September 22, 2010 at the Fisherman's Memorial Hospital. Owen was the son of Gordon Benjamin Ramey and Elizabeth Ada Ramey. He was a life-long resident of Crousetown. He was a veteran of WWII and served overseas from 1940, until Jan 1946 as a member of R.C.E.M.E, in France, Belgium and Holland. Owen was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, and a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Crousetown. He was a man of many talents and interests. He was a voracious reader and a gifted musician and a well-known fiddler. Over the years he worked in sawmills, ran a garage, drove trucks and operated heavy equipment. Owen lost his wife, Doris Eileen Bell, to cancer in 1983 after 37 years of marriage. He spent the rest of his years with companion Mabel Kaulback. Besides his parents and wife, Owen was predeceased by Mabel, a nephew, and a grandson in infancy. He is survived by son David, Martin’s Point, daughter-in-law Linda, East Dalhousie, grand-daughters Jillian, Lunenburg, and Charlotte, Halifax, sister, Betty Conrad, Crousetown, a niece and three nephews. A special thanks to Brian and Bev for their loving care over his final months. Cremation has been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home in Bridgewater. A public graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday June 18 2011 in the Crousetown Community Cemetery, Rev Wills Ott of the Royal Canadian Legion Bridgewater Branch 24 officiating.
