Obituary of Elaine Saltman

Elaine Saltman 89, of Newcombville, formerly of Wileville, passed away from this life on Monday, January 11, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville after a short illness. Born in Mahone Bay on February 8, 1920, the daughter of Mildred Slauenwhite and raised by her loving grandparents Snyder and Charlotte Slauenwhite of Mahone Bay. Elaine graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing, Halifax in 1944 as a Registered Nurse and worked for a time at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. She made her home in Bridgewater with her husband Fred Saltman. She loved music and nature and the simple things in life. She leaves behind daughter, Heather (Bill) Girvan and grandsons, Scott and Liam of Newcombville; sisters-in- law Marjorie Strum and Mildred Spinney; several nieces, nephews and cousins; step grandchildren; great grandchildren and one step great great granddaughter. Gone before her were her husband Fred of 59 years; her immediate family and brothers-in-law Edgar Strum and Gerald Spinney. Visitation will be held Thursday January 14 from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be 11am Saturday in the Bridgewater United Church, Rev Ivan Norton officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Flowers accepted.
