Obituary of Betty Eileen Scharf

Betty Eileen Scharf 81, formerly of Bridgewater and East Dalhousie, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010 in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where she had been residing. Born in Regina, July 31, 1928 she was the daughter of Daniel and Eva (Saunders) Black. She was a graduate of Scott Collegiate High School, Regina, and attended the Regina General School of Nursing 1946 -49. Along with her late husband, Bob, they resided in Montreal, Vancouver, Scotland, Saskatchewan, Germany, Ottawa, Dartmouth, California and New Brunswick, where she worked as a registered nurse in various health care facilities, taking time in between to be a dedicated stay at home mom and active community volunteer. After her husband’s retirement in 1989, they moved permanently to Nova Scotia, where Betty began working again as a casual RN at Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany where she then retired in 1993. Surviving are her children, Michelle (Dennis) Kolba, Calgary; Daniel Michael (Brenda) Scharf, Cambridge; Laurel (Francis) Joudrey, New Germany; Patricia (Gary) Stone, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Rebecca, Allison and Philip Morley, Calgary; Hannah, Krista and Mikayla Joudrey, New Germany; Thomas and Robert Stone, Dartmouth; a great granddaughter Sophia, Calgary; brother, Dr. Donald Black, Powell River, BC; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert F. Scharf; brothers Allan in childhood and Keith. Visitation 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, February 16 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater and where funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. Interment at a later date.
