Obituary of Laura Katherine Zwicker

Laura Katherine Zwicker 91, died on Monday, April 19, 2010 in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where she had been residing. Born on July 29, 1918 in New Germany, she was a daughter of the late William and Katherine (Smith) Zwicker. Following grade 12 in Bridgewater, Laura attended Provincial Normal College in Truro. She then taught in a number of schools throughout rural Nova Scotia and later in Halifax, where she lived many years before becoming ill. Laura was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Halifax where she was involved with the various church activities and lady’s groups. She was a member of the Commonwealth Society. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her niece, Ann (Frank) Gonzalez; nephews, Dr. John (Helga) Himmelman; Dr. Donald (Edythe) Himmelman; seven grand nieces and nephews, seven great grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Gladys Murphy and Phyllis Himmelman. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Memorial Service will be Saturday July 10 at 2pm in St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Family flowers only, donations may be made Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia Division.
