Obituary of Joan Barbara Bolivar

Joan Barbara Bolivar (Sims) Of Dayspring, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 4, 2011. Predeceased by her brother Jimmy Sims; infant son, Stephen; parents, Irene and Vernon Sims. Words cannot express how Joan will be missed by her devoted husband of 57 years, Bruce; sons, David and Danny (Crystal) and daughter Jane (Doug), grandchildren, Matthew and Courtney, brother, Gaye Sims (Barbara) and nieces Julie, Debbie (Jesse) and Wendy (Richard). Joan cherished her family, dear friends and her little cat Lily who was her constant companion. Her personal strength and positive outlook graced all that she did and accomplished. In recent years, aside from her key role in the family business, Joan was very active in the rug hooking community and also enjoyed painting, gardening and many other pursuits. She was a rock for her close friends and family and a constant delight. Her humility, humour and insight will not be forgotten. Despite a long battle with cancer, Joan led an active and vibrant life until her final few days. Her humanity and empathy for others never wavered. Joan and family are incredibly grateful to the amazing people at the South Shore Health Palliative Care Service for their support and kindness. A memorial service will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, York Street, Bridgewater, Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:30 am with a reception to follow from 11:00 – 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Shore Health Palliative Care Service.
