Obituary of Glenora Rosamond Ciz
Glenora Rosamond Ciz
87 of Bridgewater. On August 28 2011, Glenora, better known as “Glenny” passed away after several years of sickness, pain and suffering at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. She was the only daughter of the late Augustus and Jennie Nickerson. She is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Mary Ruthanne, High River, Alberta; Son Kevin Walter (Anne), Bridgewater, several grand-children and great grand –children throughout Canada and the USA. She was predeceased by twin sons Stephen and Kevin, Brother George. Glenny and Michael met in Shelburne in 1941 where he served with the RCN, then married in 1942. Many months of separation during the war years and after the war while he served in the navy for thirty two years. Glenny had her share of illnesses from time to time, particularly in her left eye which made her partially blind, and cancer of the brain which required the removal of her left ear. Her surgeon asked if she would agree to have the ear removed. Her reply was “yes as long as put the outer ear back so I can have a place to hang my glasses”. Because of this humorous reply, the doctor knew that the 11 hour surgery would be a success. Much later, while recovering a nurse asked how she was able to withstand the pain, Glenny reached under her pillow and produced her rosary, no other words were necessary. Thought out the 67 years of marriage the family moved a total of 28 times from coast to coast in Canada and throughout the USA. Their last move was to Drumlin Hills in Bridgewater. Glenny was just beginning to make new friends when illness again took over her love of friendship. She received word that she had vascular dementia, followed by a stroke which took away her ability to speak. Her only association with her newly found friends was by touch, a smile, and love that friendly eyes portrayed. The last couple of years, she was unable to walk without assistance. She broke her right arm and was hospitalized where doctors, nurses, and other caregivers showed absolute professionalism; the best medicine was administered with love, a tender touch, a smile, and a laugh or two. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass of Christian burial will take place Wednesday August 31st at 11am in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater with Father Joe Christensen officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday August 30th from 7-9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater with prayers at 8pm. Reception to follow the funeral mass in the Parish hall. Private burial will be at a later date. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. On line condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
