Obituary of Edith Pernette

Edith Virginia Pernette 92, West LaHave, Lunenburg County, passed away peacefully at Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, Saturday, April 28, 2007. Born in Laconia, Lun. Co., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Fancy) Woodworth. Edith was a member of West United Church, Pentz and a lifetime member of the United Church women. She was awarded the “Treasured Member” certificate for her many years of service with the S.S. Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Edith always said that she was not a fancy cook but give her a ball of yarn and she could knit a pair of fancy socks in no time. She knit for the Canadian Red Cross Society and also won numerous ribbons for her knitting at the Bridgewater Exhibition. Edith and her husband of 62 years owned and operated LaHave River Jersey Farm and following Harry’s death in 1998 she still took and interest in the farm, taking her daily walks to “the barn”. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Reg) Goldsmith, Round Hill, Anna. Co.; daughter-in-law Shirley Pernette, West LaHave, Lunen. Co.; grandchildren, Richard (Nancy) Pernette, Randall (Annette) Pernette, Rosalind (Greg) Pernette, Roderick (Faye) Pernette all of Lunen. Co., Susan (Kristian) Davis, Ontario, Karen (Eric) Olsen, Germany, Janis (Bob) Goldsmith, N.B. and her pride and joy great grandchildren, Quentin Hubley, Ben and Emily Olsen, Amelia Pernette and Emerson Davis. She is also survived by step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and also her extended family of nurses at Mt. Lea Lodge who showed such loving care during her past ten months. She was predeceased by husband Harry, son Robert and only sister Lillian Brady. At her request, cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A public graveside service for family and friends will be held 2pm Tuesday, May 1 at Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave, Rev Neil McEwen officiating. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or South Shore Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
