Hazel C. (Nichols) Danson
November 30, 1918 – January 21, 2011
Of Chester, 92 years young. Died in South Shore Regional Hospital following a stroke. Daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, community volunteer. Remembered for her ready smile and eternal optimism. Creator of imaginative birthday cakes and melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies; masterful garment and Hallowe’en costume seamstress. Dedicated to furthering music appreciation as choral singer, organizer of Junior School of the Arts, Gifts of Music. Years of service to education through Home and School Association and assisting new immigrants learning English. Deep commitment to her faith in God and life of the church, choir, United Church Women and CGIT. Hazel is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband of 68 years, Robert L. Danson (Chester, NS); daughters Lynne (Malcolm) Barkhouse (Chester), Ruth Danson (Faraday) (Ferguson’s Cove, NS), son James Danson (Indian Point, NS); eight grandchildren – Sara, Amy, Mhiran, Tobin, Jacob, John, Ned, Gwen; four great-grandchildren. Also sister Leonore Chesley (Amherst) and brother Hartt Nichols (Halifax). Pre-deceased by parents Leon and Elizabeth (Dixon) Nichols, brother Douglas Nichols, son-in-law James Faraday. Cremation has occured. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, 2 pm at Wm. Black United Church, #10515 Peggy’s Cove Rd., Glen Margaret, followed by reception in church hall. Family flowers only. Donations gratefully accepted to VON, Red Cross, Salvation Army.
