Obituary of Donald MacDonald Dolliver

Donald MacDonald "Mac" Dolliver 81 of Bridgewater passed away Monday 16 May 2011 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater he was the son of the late George and Chillie (MacDonald) Dolliver. Mac worked at the Bridgewater Post Office until 1952 when he left for R.C.A.F. Training in London, Ontario. After his time in the R.C.A.F. he went to work for Fairey Aviation Canada. From 1969 until 1991 Mac was a teacher at the Lunenburg campus of the Nova Scotia Community College. He enjoyed playing hockey as well as coaching Minor Hockey and the legion Branch 24 Hockey Team. He played on the Bridgewater High School team with his brother Art when the team won the Nova Scotia Interscholastic Baseball Championship in 1945. As a son of RCL Branch 24’s Charter Member Mac was very proud to serve as branch President, 1988 – 1989, and as Zone 13 Commander 1991 – 2003. Some of his happiest times where spent in his wood working shop. Mac is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty Mossman Dolliver; daughter Denise Dolliver, Cow Bay, NL; son Shawn Dolliver, Dartmouth; sister Barbara Mosher, Herman’s Island, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur. A public Legion Tribute service will be held 7:00 P.M. Thursday 19 May in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Burial will be at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mac’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society; Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Dr. Patterson Centre, Lunenburg.
