Donald Earl Fancy
95, of Chelsea, died Friday, May 6 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. He was the son of Alburton and Etta Mae (Wile) Fancy and was born in New Elm on April 29, 1916. He was predeceased by his wife, C. Marguerite (Henley) Fancy; partner, Ruby Beck; caregiver, Basil Beck; brothers, Ellis and Lealand; sisters, Carrie Henley and Dorinda Fancy; foster sister, Beulah Veinot. He is survived by his daughter, Marcia and her husband, Bruce Wile; son, Avon and his partner Mark Wile; son, Brian and his wife, Kathryn (Wile) Fancy; as well as, Ruby’s family; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Donald worked for many years as a mechanic in Halifax and Bridgewater. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed forestry, gardening, hunting, trapping and fishing. He ran his last trap line and at the age of 89 was known throughout parts of Lunenburg and Queens Counties as ‘the old trapper’. He continued growing his own vegetables, hunting and fishing until the age of 94, and, through the help of friends and support workers, was able to live in his own home until just weeks before his 95th birthday. There will be a private family visitation in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A public graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, in Maple Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. Donald’s special friend, Pastor Angela Stewart officiating. A reception will follow at the Chelsea Community Centre. No flowers by request.
