Obituary of Gordon H.K. Gillis

Gordon H.K. Gillis 86, Pleasantville, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, in the QEII Halifax Infirmary, with family by his side. Born in Halifax, he was the eldest son of the late Gordon Harvey and Helen (Kane) Gillis. During World War II he served in the Canadian Navy overseas in British ships. He obtained a Certificate in Business at the University of Toronto. Throughout the years, Gordon was active in his community having served on Bridgewater Town Council and terms as president of both the Lunenburg County Children's Aid Society and the Maritime Insurance Adjusters' Association. He was vestryman and treasurer of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and for three years was Commodore of the LaHave River Yacht Club. An avid horseman, Gordon also cherished time spent with family and friends at The Farm in Pleasantville and Camp "Shady", Ship Harbour. He was predeceased by his eldest child Paul Gordon and brother David A. Gillis. Gordon will forever be remembered by his devoted family: wife Joan, daughters Margot (James) Hossley, North Bend, Oregon; Jennifer (Mark) Wazny, Dallas, Texas; Anne Gillis (James Wood), Sydney, Australia; son Timothy (Sara) Gillis, Halifax; five grandchildren; sister Audrey Edwards, Tucson, Arizona; brother Donald M. Gillis , Halifax, and countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. A true gentleman, Gordon touched the lives of many people with his warmth, generosity, and sense of humour. A memorial service will be held 2pm Tuesday June 7 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater with a reception following in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, (Bridgewater), South Shore Public Libraries, or a charity of your choice.
