Obituary of Douglas Andrew Harris
Douglas Andrew Harris
79 of Bridgewater, NS, formerly of Cole Harbour, Halifax County, passed away suddenly in the Alzheimer’s unit of Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg, NS on January 14, 2011. He was born June 1, 1931 in Halifax, the second son of Stuart (a British home child), and Hattie (Bissett) Harris. He is survived by his wife Patricia Charlotte (Mason) of 47 years of marriage; brothers Melvin (Sadie) and Donald (Diane) of Cole Harbour; nieces, nephews and cousins. He retired in July 1991 after 31 ½ years with the Department of Transportation (Examiner) and immediately took lessons in duck carving, which he dearly loved. He was a member of Acacia Lodge #39 (Past Master 1986) also, Bridgewater Baptist Church and was active in the Cub and Scout movement years ago. Thanks to Bev Bowers, Clayton Shupe and all our other friends who helped us through a difficult period in our lives. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no visitation by request. A public graveside service in Brookside Cemetery conducted by Rev. Norman Hovland will be held Friday January 21, 2011 at 12 noon with reception to follow at the Bridgewater Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations (in Doug’s memory) may be made to the Building Fund (Bridgewater Baptist Church) or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
