Obituary of Eldon Carman Herman
Eldon Carman Herman
89 years old, of Italy Cross, Lunenburg County, passed away August 1, 2011 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Italy Cross January 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Olive (Smeltzer), born in Lapland, and Robie Herman, born in Italy Cross. He was widowed on July 12, 2007 by the passing of his loving wife Greta Marie (Hirtle). Eldon lived his entire life in Italy Cross as a farmer on the farm where he was born. Over the years he was also known for his activities in logging, shoeing horses, attending to livestock in distress, butchering and cutting meat, and to the end, providing fresh farm eggs to his friends. He is survived by daughters, Sandra (Melvin) Himmelman, LaHave; Dale Butcher, Halifax; daughter-in-law Jeanette, Innisfil; sons Wayne (Marilyn), Bridgewater; Blaine (Chriss), Italy Cross; sisters, Bernice Isnor, Carrolls Corner; Doris Crowell, Edmonton; Audrey Spate, Saskatoon and Norma Beaver, Westlock; brother Malcolm, Boyle; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Eldon was predeceased by son, Bruce “BK”; son in law, Kim Butcher; sister, Freda; brothers, Emerson, Charles and James. After cremation a Memorial Service will be held 11 A.M., Saturday August 6th in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev Oliver Osmond officiating. Following the Memorial service everyone is invited to a reception at the Italy Cross Fire Hall to celebrate Eldon’s many years with us. A private burial attended by immediate family only in the St. Matthias Anglican Cemetery at Italy Cross is planned. Memorial donations in Eldon’s memory may be made to the St. Matthias Anglican Cemetery Fund, to the Italy Cross / Middlewood Fire Department or the 3rd floor family quiet room at the South Shore Regional Hospital.
