Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Lapointe

Margaret Elizabeth Lapointe (McClare) 54, of Scarsdale, formerly of Hillsvale, passed away peacefully, June 22, 2011 after a brave fight against cancer. Maggie had a great love for life and her optimism; outgoing and friendly nature touched people wherever she went. She was very active in her community especially with the medical center and church. She was happy to be back in Nova Scotia and described her home as a small piece of paradise. Maggie graduated from Hants West Rural High and Nova Scotia Teachers College in 1978. During the twenty-five years she lived in Calgary, she worked with handicapped and autistic children and in the hospital as a child life therapist with terminally ill children. In the 1990’s she worked with the Calgary Board of Education in specialized settings for high risk students. In more recent years Maggie taught in schools in Lunenburg County. She was predeceased by brother Robert and mother Helen Margaret(Dunbar). She is survived by husband of thirty years Marc, daughter Brittany and son Michael. She will be greatly missed by father Walter McClare, Hillsvale; sisters Anna (Mitchell Brison), Falmouth; Nancy (Kevin McMillan), Dartmouth; Sarah (Allison Scott), Ontario; brother Fred (Maria Wong), Three Mile Plains; and nieces and nephews. Many thanks to all the kind caregivers at the QEII, South Shore Regional Hospital, the palliative care team, and the Scarsdale and area community. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday in Barss Corner Baptist Church, Rev. Lloyd Gillieo officiating. Private family burial in Barss Corner Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the New Germany and Area Medical Centre.
